Visitors to Rokeby Museum have been #inspiredbynature! Our seasonal exhibit, "Inspired by Nature: The Women Artists of Rokeby," gives visitors the chance to express their own creativity by drawing from a collection of natural objects.

These are just a few of the drawings our visitors were kind enough to leave behind, showcasing a variety of styles. Stop by and give it a try yourself!

On June 19, 1865, Union Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, to take charge of the recently arrived federal troops. With the might of the Union Army behind him, Granger issued General Order No. 3, enforcing the Emancipation Proclamation and freeing the enslaved within the state. One year later, freedmen in Texas gathered to mark the anniversary of their liberty in a celebration that would eventually be known as Juneteenth.

Rokeby Museum will celebrate Juneteenth all day with free admission and an open house from 11:00 - 3:00! Docents will be on site to answer any questions as you explore the Robinson home where Freedom Seekers once stayed. Come stop by!
