Artifacts & Anecdotes: A Behind-the-Scenes Look at Rokeby Museum

Artifacts & Anecdotes: A Behind-the-Scenes Look at Rokeby Museum
2024 Seasonal Exhibition, May 25–October 13, 2024

Rokeby Museum’s volunteers and staff work year-round to research, preserve, and share the stories, artifacts, and spaces connected to four generations of the Robinson family. Their work behind the scenes gives them unique access to the family’s collection of letters, textiles, books, art, and household goods. Working directly with the family’s objects brings to life their personalities and builds connections between their lives and ours.

The Museum inspires visitors with the Robinson family’s history of antislavery advocacy, art, and agriculture. In Artifacts & Anecdotes, our volunteers and staff share the stories and objects that inspire their ongoing dedication to the Museum.

“The personal letters were to me a real gateway into the real people they were.”

Marty Dewees, Volunteer and former Board of Trustees Chair

“The textile collection has yielded many treasurers, some mysteries, and a number of items that beg the question,‘Why did anyone save this?’”
