Dear Friends of Rokeby Museum,
Rokeby Museum does not shy away from the hard truths of history and is committed to amplifying the stories of individuals who are marginalized in the historical records. Since 2020, the Museum has developed innovative programming and educational opportunities. The Education Department reenvisioned the way it engages with students and teachers. Seven times more students have been to the Museum, and in 2024, the Education Department will host over 800 students. In addition, the department developed an innovative anti-racist curriculum for preschool students.
Alongside the growth of the Education Department, staff worked to reexamine the public tours and site engagement. Staff created a new tour and designed a rigorous training program for the tour guides. Every visitor leaves Rokeby with a better understanding of the Robinson family’s complex history.
The most prominent visual achievement at the Museum is the newly opened Seeking Freedom: The Underground Railroad and the Legacy of an Abolitionist Family. This new main exhibition at Rokeby explores the long history of the Underground Railroad, from early enslavement to the ongoing social and racial justice work being done by contemporary organizations. One visitor commented that it is a “fantastic and powerful exhibit, digging into Rokeby’s history and stripping the myths that buried that harsh reality of slavery.”
Thanks to an anonymous donor, your gift will be matched dollar for dollar. With your support, we can meet our fundraising goal of $45,000 and ensure that Rokeby Museum continues its groundbreaking work.
With gratitude,
