SUMMARY:Racial Learning & Anti-bias Program Series
DESCRIPTION:Rokeby Museum is offering 5 FREE racial learning & anti-bias programs for young children ages 4 to 6. Racial learning is a growing field based on the science of childhood development. For decades\, experts have published studies concluding that toddlers and young children make racial observations and absorb stereotyping. Unfortunately\, there is a disconnect between this and when most adults believe that they are. Likewise\, young children are making astute perceptions about the world around them. They pay attention to who is boss\, observe the advantages of a wealthy life\, and draw correlations between power\, privilege\, and race.  \n\n\n\nRacial and anti-bias learning provides children with language\, concrete reasoning\, and space to appreciate and make sense of our many similarities and differences. It also offers guidance to help children process and scrutinize the prejudice and inequity they observe in the world around them and learn how to act against it. Activities will include drawing\, hands-on discovery\, read-a-loud\, and mixing paint to discover our unique skin color. Age-appropriate discussions will include laws\, racism\, resistance\, learning about child activists\, and more. While lessons are designed to be sequential\, your child will have lots to take away whether you attend one or all. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSessions: \n\n\n\nJuly 30\, 6:00–7:00 pm: Virtual Parent OrientationAugust 3\, 9:30–10:30 am: Family DiversityAugust 10\, 9:30–10:30 am: Skin Tone 1August 24\, 9:30–10:30 am: Skin Tone 2August 31\, 9:30–10:30 am: Racial Justice: Civil Rights MovementSeptember 7\, 9:30–10:30 am: Taking Action \n\n\n\nRegistration required. Up to two adults are allowed per family. This event is limited to ten families per session. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease enable JavaScript in your browser to complete this form.Sessions Attending: *July 30\, 6:00–6:30 pm: Virtual Parent OrientationAugust 3\, 9:30–10:30 am: Family DiversityAugust 10\, 9:30–10:30 am: Skin Tone 1August 24\, 9:30–10:30 am: Skin Tone 2August 31\, 9:30–10:30 am: Racial Justice: Civil Rights MovementSeptember 7\, 9:30–10:30 am: Taking ActionName *FirstLastEmail *Number of Children Attending:\n\n\n\n	Selected Value: 0\nAges of Children Attending:456Send RSVP
